The bony and cartilaginous hump is reduced by rasping or controlled cuts, and the nasal bones are usually brought together to close the open roof. Because a hump often comes with a drooping tip, the tip is included in the plan. Surgery is usually under general anaesthesia and the splint stays for about a week.
Why does a hump form?
The upper bridge is bone and the lower bridge cartilage; the hump usually sits where they meet. Genetics is the most common cause, and the hump often becomes more visible during adolescence. Injury can also create a bump or irregularity.

How is it corrected?
The cartilage is reduced with surgical instruments and the bone with rasps, fine osteotomes or powered instruments. The nasal bones are then usually reshaped and brought to the midline. In some patients, particularly men, the hump is softened rather than removed completely to suit the face.
Why the tip matters
A drooping tip makes a hump look larger, and removing only the hump can make the nose look longer. Tip support and rotation, including tip movement when smiling, are therefore assessed.
Hump and breathing
A hump alone does not block breathing, but septal deviation or enlarged turbinates may coexist and can be corrected in the same operation (septorhinoplasty). Support techniques protect the middle airway after hump removal.
Recovery
Swelling and bruising around the eyes are common in the first days. The splint is usually removed after about a week and most bruising fades within two weeks. The bridge settles before the tip; glasses may be limited for a while.
Frequently asked questions
Can the hump come back after surgery?
After well-planned surgery the hump is not expected to return, though minor irregularities can occur during healing.
Should the hump be removed completely?
Not always; a slight dorsal line can look more natural for some faces.
Can a hump be corrected with filler?
Filler can camouflage it by adding volume around it, but does not remove the hump and carries risks.
When can I exercise?
Walking early; heavy exercise and contact sports later, as advised by your surgeon.
How is hump surgery planned in Ankara?
At the consultation in Çukurambar the hump, tip, septum and facial proportions are assessed together.
