Correcting a crooked nose involves bringing the nasal bones, septum and tip cartilages to the midline. Because much of the deviation comes from the septum, the operation is usually a septorhinoplasty. Cartilage “memory” means a slight asymmetry may remain, which should be discussed beforehand.
Why is a nose crooked?
The most common causes are injuries in childhood or adulthood and the septum growing to one side. The deviation may involve the bone, the cartilage or both.

Types of deviation
The pattern of deviation determines the technique:
- C-shaped: the bridge curves to one side.
- Reverse C or S-shaped: upper and lower parts deviate in different directions.
- Tilted nose: the bridge is straight but the whole nose is off the midline.
- Tip deviation: limited to the lower nose and front septum.
How is it corrected?
Usually by straightening or reconstructing the septum, controlled osteotomies to centre the nasal bones and symmetrising the tip. Cartilage grafts may support the septum and bridge. Extensive septal work often favours an open approach.
Breathing
Many patients with a crooked nose have one- or two-sided obstruction from septal deviation, enlarged turbinates or valve narrowing, so the airway is part of the plan.
Realistic expectations
Cartilage tends to return towards its original shape, so mild asymmetry may remain or appear later in severe cases. The splint stays about a week and the final shape settles over months; protect the nose from knocks.
Frequently asked questions
Can a crooked nose be fully straightened?
Most patients see clear improvement, but mild asymmetry can remain because of cartilage memory.
Is septoplasty done at the same time?
Usually yes; crooked nose correction is often a septorhinoplasty.
How soon after an injury can I have surgery?
Fresh fractures can be reduced early; planned correction usually waits until tissues heal.
Can filler fix a crooked nose?
It can camouflage small depressions but does not straighten the nose and carries risks.
