What are the Risks of Rhinoplasty?

The risk of bleeding, which is one of the most important risks in nose surgery, can sometimes be serious. Especially if non-aesthetic procedures are to be performed in the nose to relieve nasal congestion, which must be done if necessary, the possibility of unwanted bleeding increases. This possibility is especially higher in turbinate (nasal flesh) resections. It is an organ that contains medium-sized vessels in the nose. But such bleeding usually does not reach dangerous levels and can be stopped with simple tampons.

After surgery, adhesions called synechiae may develop inside the nose and these may make breathing more difficult than before surgery. This is usually easy to treat, but a second surgical intervention may be required. Very rarely, a hole may occur in the structure called “septum” that forms the middle of the nose. This usually does not cause a problem, but occasionally it can cause a noise when breathing. Treatment is difficult and re-operation is required.

It can be said that infection is almost never seen in the nose. This organ, which has a very strong blood supply, is very resistant to inflammation. If an infection develops after this surgery, you may enter the medical literature.

But no one will be surprised if you experience aesthetic problems, deformities or do not like your nose shape after this surgery. Therefore, the most common complication of this surgery is aesthetic. Aesthetic complications may include collapse on the nasal dorsum, open roof (the space between the bones on the nasal ridge remains open), curvature of the nose, asymmetry, and inability to breathe as a result of deterioration of the nasal valve.

Of course, in experienced surgical procedures that know what they are doing and that do not attempt to experiment on the patient, the likelihood of these complications occurring is almost non-existent. As with every surgical intervention, the most important surgery is the first one. Correcting incorrect attempts becomes more difficult with each secondary attempt.
